A Landmark Achievement in Advanced Wellbore Navigation
WellServices Company is proud to announce the successful completion of the first standalone Gyro While Drilling (GWD) operation offshore Egypt, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of directional surveying technology and drilling efficiency in the Egyptian oil & gas industry.
Successfully delivered in partnership with Icefield Energy for PetroGulf Misr, this landmark operation demonstrated the capabilities of the Meridian-GWD solid-state gyroscopic system under challenging offshore drilling conditions.
Seven Days of Continuous Downhole Performance
Operating for seven days downhole, the GWD system successfully navigated demanding drilling conditions involving tight anti-collision requirements and significant magnetic interference.
Key operational achievements included:
- 7 Days of successful downhole operation.
- 45+ High-Quality Gyro Surveys acquired.
- Zero Additional Rig Time required for survey acquisition.
- More Than 24 Hours Saved compared with previous conventional wireline gyro single-shot operations.
These results demonstrate the operational value of integrating solid-state gyroscopic technology into modern drilling programs.
Technology Delivering Measurable Value
The successful campaign highlighted the ability of Meridian-GWD technology to provide reliable directional measurements in magnetically disturbed environments while supporting critical anti-collision requirements.
By eliminating the need for repeated conventional wireline gyro interventions, the operation significantly improved survey efficiency, reduced operational interruptions, and contributed to overall project economics.
